Invest in youth. Not curfews.

Raleigh considered a citywide teen curfew. We're asking what actually makes young people safer — and giving Raleigh residents ways to participate in the conversation.

A Major Update

We made our voices heard.

Raleigh City Council is no longer actively pursuing the proposed teen curfew. Young people, parents, organizers, and community members participated through public comment, community conversations, research, and surveys.

This is an important moment for Raleigh Youth Power. But the proposal hasn't been formally resolved through a final Council vote, and the conversation about youth safety continues. Stopping a curfew was never the end goal — the bigger question remains:

What actually makes young people safer in Raleigh?

What Raleigh proposed

After incidents in Glenwood South and Brier Creek, Raleigh City Council directed staff to draft a citywide curfew for everyone 17 and under — not a rule targeted at specific incidents or places, but one that would apply to nearly 100,000 young people across the whole city.

Why Raleigh Youth Power formed: you shouldn't be able to write a policy restricting young people without hearing from young people. We organized to make sure Council heard directly from the people who'd actually live with this — and to make the case, backed by evidence, that investment works better than a curfew.

Where things stand right now: curfew proposal on hold

Council is no longer actively pursuing the curfew — but it hasn't formally disposed of the proposal through a final vote, and no vote date has been set. That's why we're staying engaged until this is actually resolved.

Not Just a Curfew: Bridging Gaps for Teens and the Community

The City hosted this community conversation with teens on October 12. The curfew proposal is still on hold and hasn't been formally resolved by a Council vote. YAP! will post what's next as the City announces it.
